The Caveman Present Moment Exercise

The Caveman Present Moment Exercise

Cartoon caveman weight lifting

The purpose of this exercise is to understand what is important to your present life and what is a distraction to you aligning with your true self.  We have a lot of distractions in our modern world that keeps us from the joy has to offer.  I see a lot of new diets that focus on the caveman eating patterns.  This is beneficial because today’s food is filled with pesticides, hormones and artificial additives.

Just like the food being offered the social interactions and view of ourselves are being polluted by artificial distractions.  To connect to your true self and realize your dreams you need to separate yourself from what is distracting you.  During this exercise, I want you to imagine you live in the caveman period of humanity.  Take away anything in your mind that relates to your current lifestyle of a modern human.  To make this fun lets take our current worries back in time to this period as a way to leave the past behind and return to our natural way of being which is living in the present moment.

You can do this exercise in your mind or on a sheet of paper.  Start out by breathing in through the nose and out through the mouth.  This exercise works best in a meditative state but can also be practiced in your mind at any time of day.  As I start this exercise, I imagine myself going further and further back in time to the Paleo period.  I envision myself in a vast lush jungle with the sounds of exotic long extinct wildlife.

jungle2

When I am stressed and distracted I find my mind can immediately begin to worry about modern concerns.  Sometimes it can be, how will I pay rent next month?  Possibly it’s regarding a deadline for an article I wanted to finish that I hadn’t.  At the same time, I imagine I hear the roar of a ferocious T-Rex dinosaur.  He seems to be attracted to my worrying thoughts.

T-rex

The more I worry the closer he seems to be.  This T-Rex finds worry delicious and fun to hunt.  Knowing that he loves these distractions, I throw them behind me to keep him satisfied with my worrying treats.  It’s similar to a bee that is flying near you.  It is more attracted to you because you fear it.  With worry comes the monsters, which is ego and doubt.  Envisioning these details helps you remove yourself from your worry and allows you to see that your lack of certainty is self created.

So, I release more and more distractions as bait for the nearby predator.  Cavemen don’t worry about an email from their boss or about a deadline (thrown to the predator).  They can’t waste time worrying about why their crush didn’t call back.  There are plenty of mates in the jungle (thrown to the predator).  The survival of the caveman is dependent on what he really needs and what helps him survive.  His or her survival is dependent on sustenance, safety, certainty and clarity in who he/she is and what must be done.  That certainty is what allows him to survive and not only survive but thrive in this world.  If he were to spend time worrying about how will he find dinner, will he be safe, where will he sleep in a month, he would be consumed by predators when his guard is let down by these distractions.

What is this blind belief that he will be ok?  Where do the abilities come from that allow him to survive without worry?  It is his faith and certainty in who he is and what he must do that allows him to survive.

Be like the caveman and emerge from the overgrown dark jungle to a beautiful lush valley free of predators and worry.

In this lush valley predators may not enter.  There are waterfalls and abundant fruit trees.  Enjoy the experience of being safe and without worry.  Allow yourself to let go and trust in the fact that well being is always flowing your way.

Tarot: The High Priestess

Tarot: The High Priestess

The High Priestess is a card of duality and an option between two choices.  Many decks refer to the High Priestess as the moon goddess.  You will see she sits between dark and light colored columns.  These columns can be seen as negative/positive, good/bad, strength and wisdom.

She holds the Tora in her arms which represents the wisdom and knowledge within.  The night sky with a crescent moon which represents the cyclical way of the moon also cycles into a daytime scene.  This card is all about duality while having the wisdom to see the commonality.

Most of the time if we listened to our instincts we would already have the answer.   Other times we are torn between the choices and need guidance to come back to our natural instinctual certainty.  Meditate on this card to find an answer to something that is holding you back in life or when you have the choice between two options.  The guidance will come from looking inside oneself and respecting both sides of the duality of any given choice.

I AM Meditation

I AM Meditation

meditation-mudra

I like to start my day with a feeling of gratitude and of self.  A great way to do this is by using meditation to clear your mind, connect to your true self and then going into a place of gratitude.  By doing this you can see gratitude from a more emotional stand point then a physical one.  Instead of being grateful for your home and car you can see gratitude for your ability to be happy or even grateful for your breath.

It is then much easier to take that gratitude for the smaller things and create desires that you would like to manifest which are more aligned with what you need rather than what you want.

To start this meditation I use meditation beads and go all the way around the strand to make sure I come up with enough I AM positive statements.  If you don’t have the beads you can place your hands in a Buddha pose like the picture above.  This hand mudra connects the thumbs (which represent the ego) back onto each other as to channel the self into an infinity loop.  The left hand represents the feminine energy and the right hand the masculine energy.  You can choose which hand to place on top of which depending on which energy you feel you need to channel more energy from.

To begin you can put on some meditation music or simply get in position and close your eyes.  Take one deep breath in through the nose, hold it for a few seconds then expel all the air in your lungs.  Do this a few times and then start a steady flow of breath in through the nose and out from the nose.

I start with some easy I AM positive statements:

I AM happy
I AM healthy
I AM well

You can then reach for other words to continue the sequence.  If I find myself searching for words I will go down the alphabet like so:

I AM amazing, I AM beautiful, I AM certain, I AM divine…

When you have either finished going through the beads or the A-Z method you can then move onto the gratitude portion of this meditation.  Like with the previous portion try and start with easy statements of gratitude:

I AM grateful for my ability to be happy
I AM grateful for my constant good health
I AM grateful for my breath

Go through as many as you can think of and keep that steady breath in and out of the nose as you make your statements of gratitude.  Once you feel you are at a point of feeling good and having expressed your gratitude you can then start thinking of things you would like to manifest into your life.

Hopefully at this point you feel great about yourself, the energy of gratitude surrounds you and you can more clearly see your manifestations becoming a reality.

Mudras

Mudras

Mudra_000

Mudras are positions of the body that seal in energy.  While they can be done in different poses the most common are done with the fingers and hands while meditating.

You often see the index (Jupiter) finger and the thumb touching in a lot of meditative postures, as the photo above shows.  This is because your Jupiter finger touching your thumb initiates knowledge which is usually desired during meditation.

As energetic beings we always have energy flowing in and from us.  Your fingers are a source of this energy.  Your fingers correspond to certain planets and constellations:

Index Finger – Jupiter – Guidance and Knowledge
Middle Finger – Saturn – Purpose, Patience and Mood
Ring Finger – Apollo or Sun – Passion, Health and Creativity
Pinky Finger – Mercury – Communication
Thumb – Connects back to you and represents your ego (We want to channel these other traits back to our ego)

This becomes important when certain planets are in alignment and you can benefit or work though astrological issues while meditation in a certain finger position.  If you’ve ever done a full natal chart often there are squares and triangles that form with the planets alignment when you were born.  Some people struggle with issues throughout their life that can be worked on by channeling that planets energy back into yourself during meditation using Mudras.  Mudras allow us to bring prana back into ourselves and re-feeding that energy that is leaving our bodies.

If your example you are feeling a lack of communication with your loved one or your boss you can connect your pinky finger and your thumb while holding the other 3 fingers together and meditate on the feeling of communciation to bring that energy back into your awareness.

While there are hundreds of Mudra positions I find the 5 finger ones easy to do at any time during the day.  Touching the fingertips to the thumb brings that energy back.  Touching the palms together brings together yin & yang, masculine and feminine, the two sides of your being together. This is why it is used a lot in yoga as a way of being aware of both of those qualities in you and to balance you out.

You don’t need to do a full yoga class or a 20 minute meditation to quickly align yourself.  Try a few Mudras a day and see how you feel after each one.

The Empress is the card that represents mother Earth, abundance, fertility and fulfillment.  On her head she is crowned with 12 starts which represent the 12 zodiacs.  She is the matriarch the giver of abundance and flowing with blessings.

You see the waterfall behind her flowing down into the earth.  She is compassionate and giving and never without the harvest.  Though she has her scepter and shield they are not raised in defense.  She is aware of her purpose and completely satisfied with sharing that purpose.

This card can be used during meditation to bring compassion, productivity, security and abundance into your life.  When this card shows up in readings it can also mean pregnancy or represent the person’s mother.

Seven Chakra Meditation

Seven Chakra Meditation

Chakra Meditation

If you are new to chakra therapy it is a good idea to become familiar with what your chakras are.  Chakras are part of the energy body, not the physical body, and as such are the meeting points of the (non-physical) energy channels, called nadiis. Nadiis are channels in the subtle body through which the life force of your body moves.  When a specific chakra point is out of alignment you will notice symptoms that can be traced to that point.

There are times when specific chakras need attention but I like to do this full seven chakra meditation to get in full alignment.  I like to do this with some meditation music in the background.

Start out by focusing on your 1st chakra which is your root chakra located at the base of your tailbone.  This one grounds you and charges you from the earth.  Focus on the color red and repeat the mantra “I AM” three times.

Then move on to the 2nd chakra which is located mid abdomen under the belly button and above your groin.  This one deals with emotional feelings.  Focus on the color orange and repeat the mantra “I FEEL” three times.

Next is your 3rd chakra located at your belly button.  It deals with your will power and self-direction.  Focus on the color Yellow while repeating the mantra “I WILL” three times.

The 4th chakra is located on your heart.  It is the center of your heart and connects you to love and compassion.  Focus on the color green and repeat the mantra “I LOVE” three times.

Your 5th chakra is located on your throat.  It deals with psychic conciousness and the true meaning of communication.  Focus on the color sky blue while repeating the mantra “I SPEAK” three times.

Next is the 6th chakra which is the 3rd eye and located between your brows.  This is where visualization occurs and psychic awareness.  Focus on this area while seeing the color Indigo and repeat the mantra “I SEE” three times.

Finally the 7th chakra is located at the crown of your head.  It is connected to spiritual awakening and inner wisdom from the divine.  Focus on the color Violet and repeat the mantra “I KNOW” three times.

After this chakra repeat I AM, I FEEL, I WILL, I LOVE, I SPEAK, I SEE AND I KNOW.  Focus on each point as you process back up.

You can spend as much time on each as you feel you need.  If one area feels like it needs more attention it is probably out of alignment.  After this meditation you should feel fully recharged and renewed.

Time is irrelevant

Time is irrelevant

love-heart-clock-800

Below is a message from Source I got meditating on the concept of how quickly do we move on from hurt and find happiness.

Time is irrelevant when it comes to your happiness. Love sees no time. Only fear lives in this time-scape. Negativity dwells in moments of time.

Hate swallows time and leaves you stuck. Love is fluid. Happiness like water flows freely without restriction or definition.

Stop putting time limits on success and happiness so it may flow and not be blocked.
